A Hike, A Picnic, An Archaeological Dig

Yesterday the Explorers traveled to Skinner State Park, where they hiked Mt. Holyoke and examined rocks along the way. Campers discovered basalt, arkose and other evidence that the Holyoke range was formed in part by igneous rock: lava and magma cooling to produce rock. It was the perfect day for a hike, picnic and story at the top of the mountain. They found cool grasshoppers and caterpillars too!

On Wednesday, campers unearthed bones on an archaeological dig! A patch of dirt was gridded out with rope and stakes. Campers picked a square to dig and used trowels and their hands to find archaeological treasure. It was hard but fun. What kind of bones are they?
