Group Challenges
Every day at camp here at the Hitchcock Center, we have a morning circle time that includes getting to know you games, nature discussions, songs and group challenges. We do this in order to come together as a group before we embark on our day of fun and learning.
Group challenges are one way each camp group becomes a team. They always include a problem that the group has to solve together. Campers are encouraged to stay positive and help each other through the process. Counselors stand back and provide encouragement and guidance but never the solution to the problem! Campers work through it together, coming up with different strategies of tackling the challenge. When they complete the challenge, the feeling of accomplishment is amazing! Often their roars of triumph can be heard throughout the Hitchcock Center.
Above, the Explorers do the "Silent Line-up" challenge. The goal is to line up according to criteria such as height, birthday, or alphabetically by name, but without speaking! This challenge was made extra hard because campers could not step off the narrow plank. You can see that campers need to come up with creative ways of moving on the plank, and that often, they need to rely heavily upon each other for support! Ask your camper about their daily group challenge today!
